a child's garden of verses

i love this book! any edition of a child's garden of verses is pretty magical...although i don't know many children who would be interested in the style of these poems these days. we are out there though! you know who you are. i was definitely one of those 'odd' children. i think these books are mostly appreciated for their aesthetic value. this one is particularly lovely. so very '20s. the endpapers are amazing! the illustrated borders are so whimsical and pleasing. all around a loved book (even if the cover is a bit blurry).

virginibus puerisque

this is such an odd little book. it's bound totally in paper, hand bound with letterpress pages and is really a treat. this copy has seen its better days. it was published in maine by thomas b. mosher in 1904. "virginibus puerisque" means 'for girls and boys' and is only one of a collection of essays included in the volume. these essays were written by robert louis stevenson (best known for treasure island) concerning life's keystones and are pretty much a manifesto of his personal feelings. i consider this book to be one of the gems of my collection!
